The Open Channel is a venture borne out of a passion for supporting change and our belief in the strength of people and organisations. Janet Dean and Steve Loraine are both senior practitioners in public sector service delivery, and in working collaboratively with private, voluntary and community organisations. Steve and Janet work as advisers to public bodies, offering solutions for change and helping drive down costs and improve performance. They also work as non-executive directors involved in the strategic leadership of large organisations in the Housing, Health and Higher Education Sectors.

Janet and Steve work alongside a team of expert practitioners, all of whom are senior people with impressive track records and a shared enthusiasm for finding the right solutions to today’s challenges.

Our Team includes:

Christina Heaton, an executive coach who specialises in organisational development and change management. She has worked throughout the public, private and voluntary sectors in London and across the UK. Her working life started with 5 years in ship broking in the city of London. She then joined IBM UK Limited where she enjoyed a successful 20 year career in sales and sales management culminating in a senior business operations role with a pan European remit.

David Marlow, a visionary Chief Executive and development economist who has worked in the public sector for over 25 years. Most recently, David was Chief Executive of the East of England Regional Development Agency (2003-2008), where he was instrumental in formulating the regional economic strategy (RES) for the East of England. David led the development of economic narratives for the “Greater South East”, the Thames Gateway and Regional Cities East as well as the RDA climate change ”smart growth” strategy.

Eleanor Brazil, the leading transitional director of children’s services in the country, having worked in the last three years in Haringey, Leeds and Birmingham. A former Director of Housing and Social Services in London, she is known for her pragmatism and insight, determination and sheer hard work. Eleanor advises the Lawn Tennis Association on Children’s issues and has been chair of a well known housing and social care charity.

Janet Crampton, until recently the national lead for commissioning for the Older People’s Stream of the Social Care Programmes of the Department of Health and a National Programme Manager. Her background is in voluntary, local authority and jointly commissioned service provision and she has specialist knowledge in project management and re-alignment of services.

Sarah Lewis M.Sc. C.Psychol, Sarah is an associated fellow of the British Psychological Society and a principal member of the Association of Business Psychologists. She is an acknowledged Appreciative Inquiry expert, a regular conference presenter and a published author. Sarah is a consultant facilitator, and all her work is informed by a social constructionist, and appreciative, view of organisations. She also has particular expertise in systemic consultation, open space, world café, future search, and positive psychology. She is experienced working with individuals, groups and organizations on public and private sector challenges. Recent clients include: Aston Business School, DeBeers, Vector aerospace and Bucks. County Council.

Jane Chipp has worked successfully with landlords across the UK in many guises over the past 20+ years. Jane’s experience in front line service delivery, policy and strategy, non-executive director roles and consultancy cemented her belief that the best organisations really focus on what the customer wants, and led Jane to specialise in customer insight and feedback. Most recently, as the Insight Director for Voluntas Housing, Jane is responsible for helping organisations to use customer data to deliver better, more cost effective services.

Dylan Chipp has worked with many housing landlords across the UK since 1997 including Director roles, Board membership and consultancy. As a service provider and speaker on a variety of topics including Value for Money, DLO health-checks and performance management, Dylan has an established reputation for candour and innovative solutions. Dylan co-founded Voluntas in 2009. As Commercial Director at Voluntas Housing, Dylan is responsible for identifying new business and marketing to ensure more housing providers are aware of the potential for real-time and continuous feedback.
